Child & Adolescent Mental Health

It is very common for children and youth to experience emotional distress as they navigate throughout adolescence. For example, many children and youth often experience anxiety in relation to school performance and social gatherings. If these symptoms continue to persist for long periods of time however, it is advisable to seek professional assistance. A number of mental health issues tend to emerge in late childhood to early adolescence.

Poor mental health among adolescents can have detrimental effects on their health and development. Adolescents struggling with mental health issues are at a greater risk of engaging in problematic behaviours (ie. substance abuse). If you suspect your child or adolescent is struggling with a mental health concern, please consult with your Family Physician.
